Dear Owen P.S. Parents,

We’re happy to be offering more fun and educational programs for the Winter 2019 term and look forward to seeing everyone again soon! Program information is below.

Please register using the “Register” button below which will appear once the registration period begins.

An automatic registration confirmation will be emailed to you after you register. An update with program information will be emailed to you after registrations close and before the programs begin.

Be sure to add the domain “exploreitall.ca” to your email white-list AND add the following email addresses to your list of safe email contacts; register@exploreitall.ca / registrations@exploreitall.ca

During your online registration you will have the option to make your program payment with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, etc.) OR by sending an INTERAC e-transfer to Explore It! before the first class. Please note that HST will be charged on program fees.

Registrations will close in December OR when the program is full. Click on the “Register” button to avoid disappointment!

Please note that parents looking for financial assistance must contact the school Principal and should email programs@owenpublicschool.ca regarding eligibility for a subsidy to have their child attend a lunch time program.

Parents who register will receive an email update on the status of the program with additional information before the program start date.

MUSICAL THEATRE PROGRAMMES:

Wednesdays : Jan 23 – May 1 (skip March 13 and March 20) : 13 weeks

 

Junior Musical Theatre : Songs from Broadway

JK – Grade 1

Join the Explore It! team for this new, and completely revamped  Junior Musical Theatre Programme and become a theatrical success! In our 90 minute sessions, we’ll explore theatre games, character building, dance and movement and – of course, we’ll learn and rehearse some of the best Broadway numbers around. From toe tapping music to creative choreography, our goal is to give even the youngest performers a truly professional theatrical experience. Participants will learn about music and performance basics, rehearsing with our talented crew and finish with a short performance in front of an audience. Included in this package is a weekly snack, an end of term performance, a professional performance photo package and much, much more!

For the Winter 2018 term, we will be performing Songs From Broadway — with a focus on the best songs from hit Broadway shows through the years. Musical Theatre has it all — from chorus lines to jazz hands, dance breaks and dazzling costumes – truly – what could be more amazing than a musical?!

Note : Sessions are 90 minutes in length with dismissal at 5pm, and this program runs for an extended, 13 week term – culminating in a performance for family and friends after the last session on May 1.

 

Musical Theatre : Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Grade 2 – 5

Join the Explore It! team for the Musical Theatre Programme and become a theatrical success! From scripts and music to costumes, hair, makeup and sets, our goal is to give young performers a truly professional theatrical experience. Participants will rehearse with our talented crew and finish with a polished performance in front of an audience. Everything is included in this package – a performance photo package as well as costuming, tickets and much, much more!

For the Winter 2018 term, we will be performing songs from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – a new musical based on the beloved children’s book of the same name by Roald Dahl.  Willy Wonka is opening his marvelous and mysterious chocolate factory…to a lucky few. That includes Charlie Bucket, whose bland life is about to burst with colour and confection beyond his wildest dreams. He and four other golden ticket winners will embark on a mesmerizing joyride through a world of pure imagination. Now’s your chance to experience the wonders of Wonka like never before and more, more, more at this everlasting showstopper!

Adventures at Hogwarts : Fantastic Beasts

Grade 2 – 5

Hop on the Hogwarts express and step inside a world where magic is real! In this engaging program we explore the Magic of Hogwarts, learning the same lessons in Witchcraft and Wizardry that Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny did in school! Join us – for an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world – from those familiar to all Potter enthusiasts such as the Hippogriff, the Basilisk, the Hungarian Horntail, to others that  will surprise even the most ardent amateur magi-zoologist. Discover these magical animals and take lessons in Wizardry this term in Adventures at Hogwarts : Fantastic Beasts!

 

Aspiring Architects

Grade 2 – 5

We spend most of our lives in buildings. We make our homes in them. We go to school in them. We work in them. But why and how did people start making buildings? For children with a passion for drawing, or dreams of creating buildings, this program explores how architects really work, moving through  the process of planning and designing.. Aspiring architects will discover design techniques, along with different, exciting architectural styles used throughout history, before bring their visions to life – first in freehand and then with model construction. The exciting world of architecture is at our fingertips… What will you build?

 

Chess : Advanced

Grade 2 – 5

You know how to play chess but now it’s time to learn the strategies and tactics that will bring your game to the next level. We’ll explore the phases of the game and help you understand the move your opponent just made before you make your game-changing moves! Have fun as you hone your game along with us this term!

 

Chess and Strategy Games

Grade 1 – 3

Join us in this program to explore your strategic side and develop your skills in some of the most popular games of all time. Together, we’ll learn how to play some of the classic games of strategy like Chess, Risk, Monopoly, Checkers, Card Games and more. Students will learn strategies and tactics while gaining the confidence to play against any opponent, and will come away with a new appreciation and respect for some of the most wonderful games ever invented.

Note to Parents: While this program is suitable to those with little to no experience, older children with some experience will also be challenged with more advanced strategy and gamesmanship. Board games are rich in learning opportunities and great for developing social skills.

 

Engineering Workshop

Grade 1 – 4

Become a “Maker” in our Engineering Workshop – where science and technology intersect with art for the ultimate collaboration! In this fun, hands-on program, you’ll learn to tinker like a pro – taking things apart, using a wide variety of tools and materials, and putting it all together in a variety of wondrous projects! Join our tinkering team this term where we could learn anything from the science of photography, to how circuits and LEDS work, to making our own squishy robots, electronic pop-up art or automated mini marvels! There’s no limit when it comes to exploring science, technology and art with your hands – so join us in our Engineering Workshop this term and learn what it means to Create!

 

Homemade Gifts

Grade 1 – 5

“Made with Love” gifts are a growing trend, yet you don’t have to be a Pinterest connoisseur to make spectacular gifts for your loved ones! In this class, we will make unique gifts and crafts that you can give to your family and friends (or even keep for yourself!). From spa treatments to edible treats and artsy crafts, you will learn how to make it all! Join us in Homemade Gifts and get ready to give the best holiday and birthday presents EVER!

 

Top Chef

Grade 2 – 5

Do you LOVE to cook? Do you dream of being on the Food Network, competing in awesome challenges? Now you can! Join us in this hands on cooking program and learn to create masterful dishes – with theme ingredients and quick-fire challenges designed by the opposing team! No experience necessary, just a love of cooking. Bon appétit!

World Chef

JK – Grade 1

Join us as we explore cultures worldwide – through food! In World Food Fest, we will travel around the world, sampling recipes from the corners of the globe, all from the comfort of our classroom! Students will learn cooking basics while exploring the diversity of cultures and the foods people eat in countries near and far. Best of all, we’ll get to enjoy our tasty treats each week! Check your bags at the door – a world of tasty creations await!
