Dear Owen P.S. Parents,

We’re happy to be offering more fun and educational programs for the Fall 2019 term and look forward to seeing everyone again soon! Program information is below.

Please register using the “Register” button below which will appear once the registration period begins.

An automatic registration confirmation will be emailed to you after you register. An update with program information will be emailed to you after registrations close and before the programs begin.

Be sure to add the domain “exploreitall.ca” to your email white-list AND add the following email addresses to your list of safe email contacts; register@exploreitall.ca / registrations@exploreitall.ca

During your online registration you will have the option to make your program payment with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, etc.) OR by sending an INTERAC e-transfer to Explore It! before the first class. Please note that HST will be charged on program fees.

Registrations will close September 20 OR when the program is full. Click on the “Register” button to avoid disappointment!

Please note that parents looking for financial assistance must contact the school Principal and should email programs@owenpublicschool.ca regarding eligibility for a subsidy to have their child attend a lunch time program.

Parents who register will receive an email update on the status of the program with additional information before the program start date.

Wednesdays After School : October 2 – December 18

Junior Musical Theatre :  Jukebox Revue

JK – Grade 1 (90 minutes)

Join the Explore It! team for the  Junior Musical Theatre Programme and become a theatrical success! In our 90 minute sessions, we’ll explore theatre games, character building, dance and movement and – of course, we’ll learn and rehearse some of the best broadway numbers around. From toe tapping music to creative choreography, our goal is to give even the youngest performers a truly professional theatrical experience. Participants will learn about music and performance basics, rehearsing with our talented crew and finish with a short performance in front of an audience. Included in this package is a weekly snack, an end of term performance, a professional performance photo package and much, much more!

For the Fall 2019 term, we will be performing a Jukebox Revue — with a focus on the best songs from hit Broadway shows through the years. Musical Theatre has it all — from chorus lines to jazz hands, dance breaks and dazzling costumes – truly – what could be more amazing than a musical?!

Note : Sessions are 90 minutes in length with dismissal at 4:50 pm, and this program runs for an extended, 12 week term – culminating in a performance for family and friends after the last session on December 18. 

 

Musical Theatre Programme : Jukebox Revue

Grade 2 – 5 (90 minutes)

Join the Explore It! team for the Musical Theatre Programme and become a theatrical success! From scripts and music to costumes, hair, makeup and sets, our goal is to give young performers a truly professional theatrical experience. Sessions are 90 minutes in length and this program runs for an extended, 11 week term – culminating in a performance for family and friends after the last session on December 12. Participants will rehearse with our talented crew and finish with a polished performance in front of an audience. Everything is included in this package including a basic photo package as well as costuming, tickets and much, much more!

Mondays at Lunch : September 30 – December 2

STEAM Chess and Logic

Grade 1 – 3

Do you want to learn the game of Kings, Generals, Conquerors, and Intellectuals? Join us in this Beginner/Intermediate level program and we’ll show you how you can play the game of chess and WIN! In this fun program, we’ll learn to: set up the board, confidently move each piece, visualize the board to gain an edge over your opponents, and predict your opponent’s strategy and stop their plan before they’ve even tried it! Chess provides the opportunity to learn to think through complex problems and in this program, we’ll use STEAM criteria and concepts to teach and reinforce these lessons of logic. Chess is a game of Masters – now’s your chance to finally learn the ancient game of Kings and Conquerors!

Note to Parents: While this program is suitable to those with little to no experience, older children with some experience will also be challenged with more advanced strategy and gamesmanship. The game of chess is rich in learning opportunities and great for developing social skills.

 

Mondays After School : September 30 – December 2

Kinder Kitchen

JK – Grade 1

If you enjoy getting into the kitchen and unleashing your creativity, this program is for you! In Kinder Kitchen, students will prepare a variety of recipes while improving basic kitchen skills and developing leadership both inside and outside the kitchen. Throughout the term, students will prepare assorted snacks, entrees and desserts, as well as enjoy trying new flavours and improving their skills and confidence in the kitchen. Participants will even go home with their own cookbook at the end of the program! Let’s get cooking!

Tuesdays at Lunch : October 1 – December 3

Movie Maker

Grade 2 – 5

Do you love to act? Fancy yourself a director or camera-person or script writer? If you love movies, plays or television, join us in Movie Maker to see your imagination come to life in the exciting world of film. From creative writing to dramatic acting, filming and editing, we’ll explore the tricks of the trade to make a movie that will wow audiences! Lights, camera, action!

 

Thursdays at Lunch : October 3 – December 5

Dynamic Chess : Strategy and Tactics

Grade 2 – 5

Join us in this Intermediate/Advanced Chess program and learn how to bamboozle your chess opponents through the use of strategy and tactics. Recognizing frequently-occurring tactical ideas is vital to success in chess. Intermediate players will benefit from the clear explanation of  concepts, such as how to utilize a fork, pin, or skewer; while more advanced players will learn to plan the game from the very first move, think ahead, anticipating every obstacle opponents can throw their way and to position themselves for the strongest endgame possible. Learn how to win and have lots of fun this term in Dynamic Chess!

Note to Parents: This program is suitable to students with some experience playing chess. Students in this program should understand how all pieces move and should have played against several opponents at or above their skill level before registering. Those students with more experience will also be challenged with  advanced strategy and gamesmanship. The game of chess is rich in learning opportunities and great for developing social skills.

 

Fridays After School : October 4 – November 29

Celebrity Chef Kitchen

Grade 2 – 5

Let’s get cooking! With recipes from the hottest names in the kitchen, this star-studded program showcases the passions of the most renowned chefs and their delectable, yet doable, dishes. Learn about proper technique with recipes from Gordon Ramsay, or the science of good food with Alton Brown. Explore the pure joy of cooking with James Barber, the fusion of cultures with Marcus Samuelsson, the deep love of food culture with Nigella Lawson or the impressive Food Revolution of Jamie Oliver. All of this and more will be on our plates this term as we dig into the lessons we can learn from celebrity chefs – and of course, indulge in our tasty creations. Yum!
