Curriculum Evening Child Care • September 11, 6 – 8:30pm:
Drop your child(ren) off with our wonderful team in the BSS Learning Commons to explore crafts and games, LEGO and more during the Curriculum Evening. A snack (all school approved, with vegan, nut free and gluten free options available) is included in the fee.
Note: all participants must be in JK or above to register and should eat their dinner before arriving.

NEW this Fall: Fun Plus+
Starting this Fall – when you register for a Fun Plus program, you’ll have the option to register for Fun Plus+ on the same day, extending the care of your child from the end of programs to 6:00 pm for the whole term!
Operating much like After Care, but with the option to enrol for select days rather than the whole week, Fun Plus+ will offer a relaxed environment, engaging activities, outdoor time and a school-approved snack. Participants will be delivered to the Fun Plus+ space following their Fun Plus program and can be picked up any time between 4:45 and 6 pm.

Please note that the Fun Plus programming term has been extended this year, to fill as many weeks as possible. The fall term now extends to up to 14 weeks of learning and fun! You may notice an increase in the program pricing in the registration process. This increase is largely due to the almost doubling of the length of the programming term. Thank you!

Let’s get Tinkering in TinkerLab! This STEAM based program encourages curiosity and creative thinking through problem-solving, questions and hands-on experiments that explore art, science and more. Disney Kitchen Cooking Club
Grade 1
Even Disney characters love to cook! From short movies to full-length feature films, characters from Disney movies are often seen sipping soups, consuming cakes or sampling any number of gastronomic delights. What are they? How were they made? How can we get a piece of that pie? Recipes such as Moana’s Tropical Smoothies, Pascal’s Pancakes, Lady and the Tramp’s Spaghetti and Meatballs, Mrs. Pott’s Raspberry-Mint Iced Tea and Aladdin’s Mast-o-Khair and more will be explored – and best of all, each week we’ll enjoy our creations together at the end of class. Be our guest in this hands-on program where we’ll get into the kitchen to create a feast!

Chess ‘N Math: Multi Level Chess Club
Grade 1 – 3
This program teaches a diverse and enriching range of chess skills! Chess is an incredibly fun tool for improving a child’s math and critical reasoning skills. The nation-wide Chess ‘N Math Association teaches chess for all levels. This Chess program provides a superb educational experience, with lessons taught by seasoned, competitive chess instructors with an extensive knowledge and passion for the game.

If you enjoy getting into the kitchen and exploring your creativity, this program is for you! In Kinder Kitchen, students will prepare a variety of recipes while improving basic kitchen skills and developing leadership both inside and outside the kitchen. Throughout the term, students will prepare assorted snacks, entrees and desserts; and will try new flavours to improve their skills and confidence in the kitchen. Participants will even go home with their own cookbook at the end of the program! Let’s get cooking!

Grade 4 – 6
Do you have an idea for the ultimate game that only you and your friends will understand? Or one you can share with the world?! Join us in this hands on, STEAM program and, before long, you’ll be impressing everyone on your next game night! Creating your own board game can be a really fun project from start to finish – all you need are some great ideas, simple supplies, and your own inventiveness!

Magical Magicians
Grade 1 – 3
Abracadabra! Join us to explore the mystical world of magical arts and theatricality! This program offers a strong focus on dramatic presentation as students learn how tricks come to life! We’ll learn loads of tricks – maybe how to make cards appear, coins disappear or read people’s minds – all while fine-tuning our critical thinking skills, as well as enhancing fine and gross motor skills. If you’ve always wanted to mystify an audience, this is the program for you! Join us this term for a truly magical experience!

Discovery Lab: STEM Explorers
Grade 1 – 3
Expand your scientific mind and discover how the world works in your very own discovery lab! By participating in fun, hands-on activities and experiments, students will develop their understanding of how science applies to the world around them. From ecosystem interactions to weather, or the kinetic differences between solids, liquids and gasses, Discovery Lab has something for everyone!

Food Lab: The Science of Good Cooking

Ever wondered how to make homemade mac ‘n’ cheese that is as satisfyingly gooey and velvety-smooth? What about exploring the temperamental wonders of chocolate to make decadent treats? Or perhaps you’d like to learn about your five senses and how they can help to make you a master chef in the kitchen?! In Food Lab : Cooking with Science, we’ll focus on the science behind our most beloved dishes, delving into the interactions between heat, energy, and molecules that create great food. And – of course, we’ll eat our delicious delicacies each week! Grab your chef’s hat – let’s get cooking!

Crafty Kids: Fairytale Fun Puppet Maker Club

Do you love famous puppets like Kermit the Frog or Miss Piggy and their funny characters? In Fairytale Puppet Maker Club, students will create their very own puppets – from small finger puppets to larger marionettes – and then learn what it takes to turn their creations into fairytale-inspired characters that any audience will love! Students will develop fine motor skills and creativity while creating their puppets, and then enhance dramatic skills as they turn their puppets into a reality! Let your artistic AND dramatic sides soar in Puppet Maker Club!

Splat! Modern Art Workshop
Grade 1 – 3
Take art outside the box in Modern Art Workshop this term! Modern Art often combines different mediums or installations in the same piece of art, experimenting with how they complement and contrast with each other. In this program, we’ll explore a multitude of artistic combinations such as paint and sculpture, texture and form – and even large-scale and collaborative projects. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist, Modern Art is always a new, exciting and creative endeavour!

STEAM Connections: Architecture Workshop
Grade 4 – 6
We spend most of our lives in buildings. We make our homes in them. We go to school in them. We work in them. But why and how did people start making buildings? For children with a passion for drawing, or dreams of creating buildings, this program explores how architects really work, moving through the process of planning and designing.. Aspiring architects will discover design techniques, along with different, exciting architectural styles used throughout history, before bringing their visions to life – first in freehand and then with engineering and model construction. The exciting world of architecture is at our fingertips… What will you build?

Active Fun: Move & Groove Yoga Dance FUN!
Junior Kinder – Grade 2
Note: If there are sufficient participants, the program will be divided based on grade.
Flow into fun and beautiful expressions in Yoga Dance FUN this term. In this program, we will combine the asanas of yoga with the movement, creativity, rhythm and joy of contemporary dance! Through individual exercise, choreography and partner or small group activities, students will develop strength and artistry in movement. Participants will learn how the power of dance and yoga complement each other as they flow into mindful movement each week. Join us and find the inner dancer, artist, and yogi in you!

Stitch Craft: Stuffed Minis, Fashion Crafts & More!
Grade 1 – 6
Note: If there are sufficient participants, the program will be divided based on grade.
Join us in Stitch Craft for inventive projects that explore everything from simple sewing, embroidery, and weaving to string art, needle felting, and yarn crafts. Projects may include embroidery enhanced wall hangings, a drawstring bag, custom plushies, woven bookmarks, bracelets, string art, pom pom animals, finger knitting, yarn art, and even cool wrapping projects. As we go, participants will learn a variety of techniques, develop dexterity and coordination, and enjoy making a variety of creative, personalized projects they can be proud of. Let’s get creative this term – in Stitch Craft!

BSS Junior School Musical Theatre
Join the Explore It! team for the Musical Theatre Programme and become a theatrical success!
From scripts and music to costumes, sets and more, our goal is to give young performers a truly professional experience. In these programs, both personal development for each student and a polished performance for the group are emphasized. Participants will rehearse with our talented crew and will finish with live performances – for their peers, as well as for family and friends.
For the Fall 2024 Season, we will be digging into two exciting revue style shows: “Pure Imagination: The Magic of Disney” and “Raise Your Voice: A Broadway Spectacular”! Both are wonderful productions with ample room to explore all elements of singing, dancing and acting as well as solo and group work. We can’t wait to get theatrical with you BSS – because “there’s nothing as amazing as a musical!”

For the Fall 2024 term, grade 1 – 3 students will be performing in this revue style show, featuring the wonderful music of Disney shows from Broadway.
Rehearsals will run from school dismissal to 5:35pm on Tuesdays (Sep 10, 17, 24, Oct 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Nov 5, 12, 19, 26, Dec 3, and 10) with a tech rehearsal on Wednesday December 11 and the Performance on Thursday December 12th. The registration fee covers a snack in each rehearsal, plus all materials, costumes, hair and makeup; and a performance package including tickets, a photo package and video recording of the show and more.

“Raise Your Voice: A Broadway Spectacular”
For the Fall 2024 term, grade 4 – 6 students will be performing in this revue style show, featuring wonderful music from some of the biggest hits of Broadway.
Rehearsals will run from school dismissal to 5:35pm (some weeks to 6:05pm) on Mondays, (Sep 9, 16, 23, 30, Oct 7, 21, 28, Nov 4, 18, 25, Dec 2, 9 and 16) with a tech rehearsal on Tuesday December 17 and the Performance on Wednesday December 18th.
