Hello Performers!

We are SO looking forward to diving into the magic of musical theatre with you this term!

This page will be our go-to resource for the project. You will find here:

  • The lyrics for each song. Plus any spoken lines we add in to round out the show.
  • Vocal and backing tracks for each song are embedded into this page below. We ask that all performers listen to the vocal tracks at least once per week. Singing along while doing chores, riding in the car or playing with friends is an excellent and easy way to practice and learn!
  • As we learn choreography for songs, we will add break-down and practice videos for performers to rehearse with – the more we dance, the better we’ll perform – practice really does make perfect!

Please let us know if you have questions or if we can support you in any way. We are here and ready to help!

See you in rehearsal!

Maggie & Liz

Performers! It is very important that you take some time each week to practice at home. As a guide, we recommend the following:

  • Grade 1s should be rehearsing for approximately 30 minutes per week between sessions.
  • Grade 2s should be rehearsing for approximately 45 minutes per week between sessions.
  • Grade 3s should be rehearsing for approximately 60 minutes per week between sessions.

Next, listen to all the music and get to know the story and the characters – especially your own!

In rehearsals, we will begin by working on the songs together – lyrics and choreo – and then build on with character work, blocking and more. If you’re looking to take on more responsibility in this production – show us by learning your part ‘inside and out’ and by showing up to each rehearsal with a positive attitude. There’s always room for performers to take on more and we love to find that special moment for each person to shine on stage!

A hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap
A barrel and a heap and I’m talkin’ in my sleep
About you,
 About you
‘Cause I love you a bushel and a peck,
You bet your purdy neck I do
A doodle oodle ooh
A doodle oodle oodle ooh doo

I love you a bushel and a peck
A bushel and a peck though you make my heart a wreck
Make my heart a wreck and you make my life a mess
Make my life a mess, yes a mess of happiness
About you,
About you
‘Cause I love you a bushel and a peck
You bet your purdy neck I do
A doodle oodle ooh doo
A doodle oodle oodle ooh doo

I love you a bushel and a peck
A bushel and a peck and it beats me all to heck

Tina you’re on!

Hello Mother

Tina we have company!

I love company

Darling, say hello to Miss St. Croix

Hi!

Tina loves to perform!

Some girls like to cook and sew
When i cook it’s in a show
I was born to entertain!

Some girls prefer to help mom clean
I’d rather learn a dance routine
I was born to entertain!

Instead of walkin’ i go flappin’
‘When i tap i make it happen
Mom says i have Broadway on the brain
Don’t get too comfy in that seat
When i strut my stuff
You’ll be on your feet
I was born to sing and dance!
Break!

Not every show-biz cinderella
Has got to come from Pocatello
My star will rise like bubbles in champagne

By now you guessed my one ambition
Is not to be no mathematician
I was born to amuse
From the tip of my nose
‘To the tap of my shoes
Strike up the band
Hand me a hat and my cane,
‘Cuz–I was born to entertain!

Brand New Day
The Wiz

Everybody look around
‘Cause there’s a reason to rejoice you see
Everybody come out
And let’s commence to singing joyfully
Everybody look up
And feel the hope that we’ve been waiting for

Everybody’s glad
Because our silent fear and dread is gone
Freedom, you see, has got our hearts singing so joyfully
Just look about
You owe it to yourself to check it out
Can’t you feel a brand new day?
Can’t you feel a brand new day?
Can’t you feel a brand new day?
Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Woo!
Hey!
Woo!

Everybody be glad
Because the sun is shining just for us
Everybody wake up
Into the morning into happiness

Hello world
It’s like a different way of living now
And thank you world
We always knew that we’d be free somehow
In harmony
And show the world that we’ve got liberty

It’s such a change
For us to live so independently
Freedom, you see, has got our hearts singing so joyfully
Just look about
You owe it to yourself to check it out
Can’t you feel a brand new day?
Can’t you feel a brand new day?

Everybody be glad
Because the sun is shining just for us
Everybody wake up

Cookies
A Year with Frog and Toad

Toad (spoken):
Frog, taste these cookies that I have made.
(He hands Frog a cookie, and he takes a bite)
Well?

Frog:
This is a marvelous cookie
Sweet, with an excellent crunch
Perfect to follow a dinner

Toad:
Or just after breakfast

Both:
And prior to lunch

Frog:
Crisp, but not overly brittle
Just a scintilla of spice
Cunningly soft in the middle

Toad:
Let’s have another

Both:
These cookies are nice!
Eating cookies, eating cookies
We’re so happy eating cookies!
Cookies, cookies, cookies we adore!
Cookies, cookies, cookies, cookies
We go kooky eating cookies!

Frog:
Maybe we should stop.

Toad:
Let’s have more!

Frog (spoken):
Toad, we must stop eating these cookies. I know! Get me a box and some string!

Toad:
Eating cookies, eating cookies
I’m so happy eating cookies!
Cookies, cookies, cookies I adore!
Cookies, cookies, cookies, cookies
I go kooky eating cookies!

Frog:
Maybe you should stop.

Toad:
Just one more!

Frog (spoken):
Now I will put these cookies in the box and tie it up with the string.
Then we shall no more cookies!

Toad (spoken):
What an excellent plan. However,
(sung)
there is a problem with the plan.

Frog (spoken):
What plan?

Toad:
The no more eating cookies plan.

Frog (spoken):
What is it?

Toad:
The problem with the plan

Frog:
The no more eating cookies plan

Toad:
Is if we want to eat more cookies, then, in fact, we can!
We could untie the string and open it

Frog:
That’s true

Toad (spoken):
How ‘bout a cookie?

Frog (spoken):
Don’t mind if I do!

Both:
Eating cookies, eating cookies
We’re so happy eating cookies!
Cookies, cookies, cookies we adore!
Cookies, cookies, cookies, cookies
We go kooky eating cookies!

Frog:
Maybe we should stop.

Toad:
Let’s have more!

Frog (spoken):
Toad, we have to do something!

Toad (spoken):
You’re right! I’ll get us some MILK!

Frog (spoken):
No! No! No! We must stop eating the cookies!
I know, we’ll give them to the birds.
Hey, birds!!

Birds:
What?

Frog (spoken):
D’you want some cookies?

Boy Bird (spoken):
Sure! Bring ‘em on!

Lady Birds:
Wait! Should we be eating these cookies?
Or should we rather have worms?
Worms are a product of nature
Toad did the baking.
Think of the germs!

Toad (spoken):
Well, I never?

Bird:
Toad makes the tastiest cookies.
Go on and try one!

Everybody Wants to Be a Cat
The Aristocats

Everybody wants to be a cat
Because a cat’s the only cat
Who knows where it’s at

Tell me
Everybody’s pickin’ up on that feline beat
‘Cause everything else is obsolete

Strictly high-button shoes!

A square with a horn makes you wish you weren’t born
Ever’time he plays

But with a square in the act
You can set music back

To the cave man days
Cha-cha-ba-dum-bo-day

I’ve heard some corny birds who tried to sing
Still a cat’s the only cat who knows how to swing
Who wants to dig a long-haired gig and stuff like that?
When everybody wants to be a cat

A square with a horn makes you wish you weren’t born
Ever’time he plays

Oh, a-rinky-tinky-tinky
With a square in the act, you can set music back
To the caveman days

Oh, a-rinky-tinky-tinky

Yes
Everybody wants to be a cat
Because a cat’s the only cat who knows where it’s at
While playin’ jazz you always has a welcome mat
‘Cause everybody digs a swingin’ cat

If you want to turn me on
Play your horn, don’t spare the tone
And blow a little soul into the tune

Let’s take it to another key
Modulate, and wait for me
I’ll take a few ad-libs
And pretty soon

The other cats will all commence
Congregatin’ on the fence
Beneath the alley’s only light

Where every note is out of sight

Everybody, everybody, everybody wants to be a cat!
Everybody, everybody, everybody wants to be a cat!
Everybody, everybody, everybody wants to be a cat!
Everybody, everybody, everybody wants to be a cat!
Everybody, everybody, everybody wants to be a cat!
Everybody, everybody, everybody wants to be a cat…

I Love Play Rehearsal
Be More Chill

I love play rehearsal
Because it’s the best!
Because it is fun
I love play rehearsal
And I get depressed as soon as it’s done

But not depressed as in like everything-is-awful
No, I’m really okay
Dude, I swear, I just miss the play!

See, I just use the word to emphasize a point
Show the passion that I’ve got
I am passionate a lot

I have mad, gigantic feelings
Red and frantic feelings
About most everything
Like Broadway shows, like spring

Like if I’m living up to all I’m meant to be
I also get distracted easily

(spoken)
Where was I?
Oh, right!

(sung)
I love play rehearsal
‘Cause you are equipped with directions and text
Life is easy in rehearsal
You follow a script so you know what comes next

Anywho the point that I’m getting to is sometimes life can’t
Work out in the way
It works out in the play
Like the only time I get to be the center of attention
Is when I’m Juliet
Or Blanche DuBois
And can I mention?

(spoken)
That was really one of my best roles
Dis you see that?

(sung)
And no matter how hard I try
It’s impossible to narrow down the many reasons why-y-y-y
I love play rehearsal
I happiness cry whenever it starts!

It’s just so universal
Getting to try playing so many parts

Most humans do one thing for all of their lives
The thought of that gives me hives!
I have so many interests I wanna pursue

And why am I telling this to you?
Guess there’s a part of me that wants to

Back to play rehearsal
My brain is like “Bzz”
My heart is like “Wow!”

Because we’re here at play rehearsal

And it’s starting
We’re starting
It’s starting
Soon
Ooh

Live Out Loud
A Little Princess

I don’t want to go along with the crowd
Don’t want to live life under a cloud
Give me some air, and space,
And the sun on my face
I want to live out loud!

Don’t want to be alone in the crowd
Don’t want to seem peculiar and proud
I need to be as free as I know how to be
I want to live out loud!

Everyday — sleepwalk, lockstep
No one dares to stray
Though they may– straight-laced,
Shame- faced–
Long to break away
There as lonely as can be–
Is that what they want from me?

I don’t want to go along with the crowd
Don’t want to live life under a cloud
Give me some air, and space,
And the sun on my face
I want to live out loud!

Don’t want to be alone in the crowd
Don’t want to seem peculiar and proud
Nobody wants me here,
But I won’t disappear
I want to live out loud!

I want to run down an open shoreline
I want to join in a moonlit dance
I want to swing from
The branches of a tree
I want to bathe in a hidden inlet
And let the breeze come and dry my hair
I want the life they took away from me!
If that makes me headstrong, fine!
That’s a fault I’m glad is mine!

I don’t want to go along with the crowd
Don’t want my spirit broken and bound
Why do I have to hide
What I’m feeling inside?
I want to live out loud!
Don’t want to be alone in the crowd
I only want what I’m not aloud
Give me the wings of a bird
I’ll be seen and be heard

I want to sing when my heart is full
I want to sing and I want to fly
I want to soar in the
Sky without a cloud!

I want to live out loud!

Never Smile at a Crocodile
Peter Pan

Did you say smile?
Never smile at a crocodile
No, you can’t get friendly with a crocodile
Don’t be taken in by his welcome grin
He’s imagining how well you’d fit within his skin

Never smile at a crocodile
Never tip your hat and stop to talk awhile
Never run, walk away, say good-night, not good-day
Clear the aisle and never smile at Mister Crocodile

You may very well be well bred
Lots of etiquette in your head
But there’s always some special case, time and place
To forget etiquette

HOOK
For example: One positively must not bear a pleased expression on his countenance when confronted with that large lizard-like amphibious reptile, who has long jaws, armoured skin and webbed feet, and who is known as the crocodile. It has been discovered that one simply cannot cherish an amicable or trustworthy relationship with the aforementioned species. In addition, it is mandatory that one does not become irresistibly drawn into the erroneous belief that the lateral upward extension of his lips means that you are entirely welcome. It is much more reasonable to assume that he is contemplating how you would look in an amphibious suit. His.

ALL
Clear the aisle and never smile at Mister Crocodile.

Stick It to the Man
School of Rock

When the world has screwed you
And crushed you in it’s fist
When the way your treated
Has got you good and miffed
There’s been one solution
Since the world began
Don’t just sit and take it
Stick it to the man
Rant and rave
And scream and shout
Get all of your aggression out
They try to stop you
Let ‘em know
Exactly where they all can go
And do it just as loudly as you can!
Stick it to the man

Break the rules
Ignore the signs
And colour way outside the lines
Go off the script!
Do what you like!
They hate it, they can take a hike
And do it just as loudly as you can
Stick it to the man!

Rock the house and make a scene
And cranks the amps to 17
And scream until their ears are shot
They all can kiss your you know what
Do everything they ever tried to ban

Stick it to the man
Stick it to the man!

The Kite
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown

Little more speed, little more rope,
Little more wind, little more hope,
Gotta get this silly kite to fly.
Gotta make sure it doesn’t snag
Doesn’t droop, doesn’t drag
Gotta watch out for ev’ry little- whoops!

Little less speed, little more tack,
Little less rise, little more slack,
Gotta keep my wits about me now.
Gotta make sure it doesn’t get the best of me
Till I get it in the air somehow!

Millions of little kids do it ev’ry day
They make a kite and-“poof”- it’s in the sky.
Leave it to me to have the one fool kite
Who likes to see a little kid cry.

Little less talk, little more skill,
Little less luck, little more will,
Gotta face this fella eye to eye.
Now that I’ve seen you chasing moles,
Climbing trees, digging holes,
Catching your string on everything passing by
Why not fly?

Wait a minute,
What’s it doing?
It isn’t on the ground.
It isn’t in a tree.
It’s in the air!

Look at that.
It’s caught the breeze now,
It’s past the trees now
With room to spare…

Oh-
What a beautiful sight.
And I’m not such a clumsy guy.
If I really try
I can really
Fly a kite!

The Lonely Goatherd
The Sound of Music

High on a hill was a lonely goatherd,
Layee odl, layee odl layee oo,
Loud was the voice of the lonely goatherd,
Layee odl layee odl oo.

Folks in a town that was quite remote heard
Layee odl, layee odl layee oo,
Lusty and clear from the goatherd’s throat, heard
Layee odl layee odl oo.

O ho lay-dee odl lee o
O ho lay-dee odl ay!
O ho lay-dee odl lee o
Hodi odl lee-o-lay!

One little girl in a pale pink coat heard
Layee odl, layee odl layee oo.
She yodeled back to the lonely goatherd,
Layee odl layee odl oo.

Soon her mama, with a gleaming gloat, heard
Layee odl layee odl layee oo—
What a duet for a girl and goatherd,
Layee odl layee odl oo!

O ho lay-dee odl lee o
O ho lay-dee odl ay!
O ho lay-dee odl lee o
Hodi odl lee-o-lay!

Happy are they—lay dee o ladee lee o,
O lay dee o day dee lay dee o!

Soon the duet will become a trio,
Layee odl layee odl oo!

Hodi lay-ee
Hodi lay-ee
Hodi lay-ee-ee
Hodi lay-ee

Hodi lay-ee
Hodi lay-ee
Hodi lay-ee
Hodi lay-ee

O-de-layee odl lee-ee odl lay!

This Is Me
The Greatest Showman

I am not a stranger to the dark
“Hide away, ” they say
“‘Cause we don’t want your broken parts”
I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars
“Run away, ” they say
“No one’ll love you as you are”
But I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown ’em out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me

Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh

A little spark of magic lights my way
Well, here I go, and today, I’ll let the wonder begin
We are bursting through the barricades and
Reaching for the sun
Yeah, that’s what we’ve become
I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown ’em out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh
This is me

And I know that I deserve your love
There’s nothing I’m not worthy of
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown ’em out
This is brave, this is proof
This is who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh
This is me

Top Secret Personal Beeswax
Junie B. Jones

I can hardly believe it
It′s almost too good to be true
Mother went to the store and she bought me a book
Full of lots of empty pages, I can do things to

If I want to draw a winner sausage
Or a picture of a beautiful day
Or list my favourite colours and foods
Anything I want is a-okay

‘Cause it′s my top secret personal beeswax
The whole wide world according to me
I’ll call it “Top secret personal beeswax”
And keep it under lock and key

I’ll take my top secret personal beeswax
And put it in this diary
And call it “Top secret personal beeswax”
“The life and times of Junie B”

Shoo-bee-do-wop, shoo-bee-do-bee-do-wop
Well, maybe if you′re nice
I′ll share it with you
Shoo-bee-do-wop, shoo-bee-do-bee-do-wop

Let’s see, where should I begin?
My name is Junie B Jones (my name is Junie B Jones)
The B stands for Beatrice (hey, Junie Beatrice)
Except I don′t like Beatrice (that’s why she′s Junie B)

I was named after the month of Junie
(The month of Junie, that’s why they call her Junie B)

If I could have a different name, I think it would be Pedro
(It would be, huh? Let′s talk about Junie B)

I live in a house with mother, daddy
And baby Ollie, and my pet dog Tickle
(That’s Junie’s family)

They are fascinating people
Except for baby Ollie, who′s not the sharpest tool in the barn
(A lovely family)

I go to the Bishop somebody or other elementary school
And I am very busy getting ready for first grade (so much activity)
I got new crayons, and new stickers
And a new pencil with a teddy bear eraser on top,
Now all I need is some adventure

Look at all these pages waiting to be filled
I have to say the pile is very tall

Ask me how I′m feeling, I have to tell you, wow
How will I find a way to fill them all?
Oh…

It’s a wonderful feeling
In happiness, I might just drown
Tell me, how can you help smiling smile after smile
When you take stories of your life, and you write them down?

If I want to tell a knock-knock joke
I know the perfect place it can go
When I think of my latest brilliant plan
I take my favourite crayon and let ideas flow

I′ll call it “Top secret personal beeswax”
My fascinating history
Top secret personal beeswax
And if you’re nice, I′ll let you see
I′ll call it
“Top secret personal beeswax”
“The life and times of Junie B”

Top secret personal (top secret personal)
Top secret personal (top secret personal)
Top secret personal beeswax

Writtin’ by me (top secret personal beeswax, yeah)
Writtin’ by me (top secret, personal beeswax, yeah)
Writtin′ by me (top secret personal beeswax, yeah)

Top secret personal beeswax

Turning Turtle
Mary Poppins Returns

Turning turtle? What exactly does that mean?

It means my whole world goes flippity flop like a turtle on its back
And I don’t know my up from my down, my east from my west
My topsy from my bottomsy

If you bring me something broken on a Thursday
I’ll make new, with my glue, pins and thread
But you bring whatever broken on a Friday
I will mend and then spend the day in bed

Children, Satur, Sun and Mondays are just everything is fun days
But in the second week, I wear a frown
For, I know that after Tuesday comes the Topsy get’s bad news day
It’s the dreaded second Wednesday
When from nine to noon, my life turns upside down

If fast is slow, low is high, stop is go and that is why
Every second Wednesday is a hurdle
From eight to nine, all is well
Then I roll over on my shell
And all because the world is turning turtle

Day is night, dog is cat, black is white, thin is fat
That is why I’m loosening up my girdle
I cannot help this charming troop
Don’t lock me, ’cause I’m in this soup
And why? Because the world is turning turtle

Oh, woe is me, I’m as opposite as I can be
I long for Thursdays when the world is drab
When will it cease? Now my life resembles War and Peace
That Tolstoy certainly had the gift of gab, I couldn’t get through it

Near is far and here is there
Turtles turning everywhere
Things are getting clear
Then knock on wood my dear

When you change the view from where you stood
The things you view will change for good

I never thought of things that way
She never thought of things that way

Now Wednesdays are my favorite days
Now Wednesdays are her favorite days

‘Cause that’s the day, I’m quite contrary
And now, thanks to cousin Mary

I have changed, to be exact, I love the fact
The world is turning turtle, turtle, turtle

We’re All Made of Stars
Finding Neverland

You can be anything you wanna be
You can go anywhere you wanna see
A little hard work and you can do it
Faith will get you through it
So many possibilities

You gotta believe it to see it
And you can be it
The answers are all inside yourself
The universe has plenty of space
And the gift that it gave to the whole human race
Is that

We’re all made of stars
We’re all made of dreams
No matter who you are
You can do what you want
Go where you like
Be who you wanna be

If a doctor could save only just one life
From pain and from misery,
That’s what I wanna be

I would sail all around the world
A life of discovery
That is the life for me

If I could write every single day I’d
Write all my cares away
I’d be leading a different life
A wonderful life!

A magical life!

Bah bah ba da bahdy dah di dah
Bah bah ba da bahdy dah di dah
Bah bah ba da bahdy dah di dah

You can do what you want
Go where you like
Be who you want to be

Be what you wanna be

Be what you wanna be!
