Are you the next Oliver or Dorothy; Cinderella or Aladdin; or maybe Nala of Lion King fame? If you have Broadway aspirations – there’s no time like the present to start honing those skills! In Junior Musical Theatre, no prior singing or acting experience is required as we begin to learn the fundamentals of Musical Theatre. Students will explore songs of various genres while enhancing performance skills in the areas of dance and acting. This program will give you the tools you need to reach for the stars!
Musical Theatre programs can be exceptionally rewarding as children quite naturally take to the joy of singing, dancing and performing. If you are booked to Lead or Support at Musical Theatre program, we ask that you first shadow a similar program where a more experienced Instructor is leading. We have found that certain techniques work best to keep participants engaged and that the best way to share our knowledge, tips and tricks is in person, during a rehearsal. Please check in with Liz about booking shadowing session(s) when you are confirmed to take on a Musical Theatre program.
In a Jr Musical Theatre program, the goal is to expose students to singing, dancing and acting, in a joyful way – so as to encourage them to continue into larger programs later. Often these programs are booked for JK-SK students, so be sure to break up your lessons with lots of games and multi-sensory activities at various energy levels to keep them engaged.
Note that a formal performance at the end of the term is not expected in these programs. Often, Lead Instructors will look to hold a very casual performance at the end of the term, inviting the Explore It! program participants and Instructors to spend the last 10 minutes of the last class together. This gives our youngest students the opportunity to perform in a low-pressure environment – one that is fun and rewarding for all. Save time at the very end of class for a dance party involving everyone!

Most often, these programs are booked with a theme, and should feature music found in Broadway or West End shows, relating to those themes. Note that this is a Musical THEATRE program – please do not use music found only in movie musicals or animated musicals – these do not apply here.
