Active Program Resources

The goal of active programs is to get participants moving and having FUN. Get to know your group so you can tailor the experience to their skills, interests and energy right from the start.

Some tips:

  • Make sure you clearly state the rules at the beginning of each activity.
  • Play every game at least twice, rules usually need to be clarified after round one.
  • Allow students to decide whether they would like to continue playing games after two rounds, sometimes they want to play one game for the whole class, which makes your life as an instructor easy!
  • Try shaking up the challenges or giving them techniques to improve their skills.
  • When completing challenges that are races, tell the students that the team sitting on the floor in a straight line is the winner. Don’t make them be quiet unless things are really getting out of hand.
  • Give out points for listening, teamwork, cheering and positivity. Take away points for bad behaviour and poor sportsmanship.
  • Build a variety of types of activities and challenges into each session – to appeal to the widest audience and encourage a little whole-group down time once in awhile to build camaraderie.

If you have any concerns or questions about what quality means in this program, please discuss with your Senior Instructor or email Liz or Randy to confirm.
