In an Explore It! Visual Art program, it is the process, not the product that is most important. Children should be actively learning about the style/technique that is being taught and should be creating original art to the best of their ability. Instructors should take the time to explain that any art program demands positive self-reflection and language and that we must be supportive of ourselves and each other while we learn. With that in mind, only pieces that meet our standards of quality should be sent home. We suggest that – where possible – you keep all art pieces, curating them into a folio to be sent home on the last day of the term.
If you have any concerns or questions about what quality means in this program, please discuss with your Senior Instructor or email Liz or Randy to confirm.
Term-Structured Art Programming:
These programs ask the Instructor to create a full-term lesson arc, focusing on many aspects of the same medium or genre. Click on a button below to learn more about each program and to see the resources and packing lists associated with them.
Lesson Based (Multi Media) Art Programming:
These programs focus on lesson by lesson learning. Some projects may take more than one session to complete, but each lesson can/should stand independent from the others in the term.
Please be sure to choose lessons from the resources that are appropriate to your program description (below) as well as your group’s grade range. “Beginner” lessons are best suited to JK through grade 2, “Intermediate” for grade 1 – 4, and “Advanced” for grade 3 – 6. Of course – any lesson can be tailored and adjusted to work for almost any group.
