Explore It! is proud to offer high quality, engaging and educational LEGO Programs to its students. LEGO Programs can be some of the most enjoyable programs for Instructors to run – but they do take finesse to execute at a high standard. Please review the following guidelines to have the most successful LEGO Program possible!
Sit on the carpet with them and get interactive… the more you find yourself crawling on the floor in this program the better — the children will naturally respond to you when you are “with” them instead of “over” them. Do not set up a LEGO program at desks — it should be facilitated on the floor in a large group (or small groups working side-by-side).
Announce the theme at the start of the class (BEFORE you have set out/distributed the LEGO) and spend a few minutes with your students brainstorming the different ways they could use the theme in their creations.
Use the resources in your bin! You should have:
- LEGO including LEGO people and base boards.
- Paper and colouring materials to allow children to create their own backdrops and/or bases for their creations.
- An atlas or a book relating to the theme of your program – to spark imagination!
Focus on imagination. If they can imagine it, they can build it. Begin some weeks by removing the items LEGO has already made such as people, weapons, wheels, large accessories, etc. These items sometimes cause disagreements and stifle imaginations.
Encourage your students not to be afraid to break something they’ve made. Shake a tower, crash a plane or put weight on a bridge. Every class should end with students breaking down creations so the class can start fresh the following week.
Have Fun!
See the General LEGO Program Packing List here.
Please return your LEGO bin at the end of the term in the way it was sent to you:
- Your LEGO is in the bin or bag it was delivered in.
- LEGO creations are broken down with pieces separated and no other supplies stored with the LEGO pieces.
- Your LEGO blanket is folded inside the bag.
- Your other supplies are returned neatly, with markers, crayons, pencils in their own separate bags and unused paper stacked neatly. All used paper should be sent home with students or discarded.
In LEGO programs, it will be up to the Instructor(s) to gauge the interests of the group and decide how best to structure the overall term. Each week should highlight and feature the central theme as outlined in the program description(s) below. If you need help brain storming weekly build themes, challenges and games, talk to your Support Instructor and/or email Liz.
